Commentary #2 – A Brand New Year & Write Right 2

The Word
Well, that took you long enough.

John Varane
What! I’ve been away, man. Holidays. And now, work.

The Word
How’s the fam?

John Varane
They send their love. My sister, especially. Don’t know why.

The Word
[laughs]
Oh, yeah, your sister…

John Varane
Woah, what did you do?

The Word
Nothing. Can we just get on with the commentary, please?

John Varane
Well, someone’s in a hurry. OK. New year. New things. Drum roll!
[drums table]
Akin got nominated as a  Write Right 2 finalist, yay!

The Word
Nice! Fantastic.

John Varane
A little history. Word, Akin and moi met in Birmingham. We lived in the same Halls of Residence. Great times, man.

The Word
Great times. And Write Right 2 is this competition created by Tunde Leye to encourage up-and-coming writers to keep writing. It’s a lovely gesture, and a bold one too, considering the time and money he’s investing in it. Link is here. We’ve posted Akin’s entry on our blog as well, so ya’ll can read it. Tomorrow, Tunde will post the first episodes of all short-listed finalists. If you’re reading this now, you should support our boy, Akin, and vote for him. Let’s get him the crown!

John Varane
It begins to tomorrow!

The Word
I’m super excited about this, John. I  really can’t wait to see what Akin brings to the table. Did he tell you what he was writing about?

John Varane
No. He’s not telling anyone. He’s probably shy. I understand. This is really big for him. If I was a finalist, I wouldn’t tell too.

The Word
Why didn’t you enter the competition?

John Varane
I didn’t follow the “Broken Mirrors” story. What about you? I’m surprised you didn’t enter the competition, considering you followed the story.

The Word
What makes you think I didn’t?

John Varane
Your name isn’t one of the short-listed finalists. Unless…

The Word
Unless…

John Varane
Shut up! No way.

The Word
Idiot. Before we go, New Year’s resolution?

John Varane
Um… Take my writing more seriously. That would be mine.

The Word
Get married. That would be mine.

John Varane
Tired of living with your mum?

The Word
Oooooh, nice one.
